Join us for a special evening with Sonoko Sakai in celebration of her new cookbook Wafu Cooking: Everyday Recipes with Japanese Style.
Thursday, December 5, 2024.
Join us for an unforgettable evening of delicious food, culture, and conversation with renowned cook, teacher, and author Sonoko Sakai. Celebrate the release of her latest cookbook Wafu Cooking, where she shares her love for creating dishes that blend the flavors of her diverse cultural background—Japanese, Italian Swiss, and American.
Sonoko’s approach to cooking is all about harmony. As she writes in her new book, “The dishes in this book represent who I am. I was born in New York to Japanese parents, the first American-born child and the eldest daughter of five. I have Italian Swiss ancestors on my mother’s side, and was raised by my maternal grandmother and mother who took pride and joy in our European roots, but lived in a traditional Japanese culture.”
The word “wafu” refers to the Japanese style—a philosophy of using Japanese ingredients, seasonings, techniques, and sensibilities to create food that feels both familiar and innovative.
What to Expect:
- A special a la carte dinner inspired by the recipes in Wafu Cooking
- Insight into Sonoko’s creative journey and how her multicultural background shapes her cooking
- An opportunity to get your copy of Wafu Cooking signed by the author
Whether you’re a fan of Japanese cuisine or simply love discovering new ways to blend cultural influences in the kitchen, this is a night you won’t want to miss.
